内容：ハロウィーンの始まりから、子どもたちがどのように楽しんでいるかまで、ハロウィーンの基礎知識をわかりやすく紹介しています。大きなイラストと少なめの文章で読み聞かせにもぴったりです。
対象：幼児～小学校高学年
大き目のバスタオル（あればハロウィーンのコスチュームなど）、ハロウィーン、クリスマス、イースターなど、様々な季節のイベントの絵カードをそれぞれ数枚ずつ、A4の紙、鉛筆、色えんぴつなど
ハロウィーンについてわかりやすく紹介されていますが、単語や表現がやや難しい箇所もあるので、少し要約したり、子どもとやり取りをしながら読み聞かせをするとよいでしょう。

In ancient times, people feared the coming of winter. They were afraid the sun they worshiped would be killed by the darkness of the longer nights. It was a scary time of the year.

1） 絵本を読んだあと、ハロウィーンの絵カード数枚にクリスマスやイースターなど、他の季節の行事の絵カードを数種類混ぜておく。
（例）witch, pumpkin, black cat, bat, skeleton, Santa Claus, reindeer, stocking, sleigh, Easter egg, Easter bunny など
2） 子どもたちに絵カードを1枚ずつ見せながら、ハロウィーンに関係があるものかどうか聞く。
T: What is it?
Ss: Witch!
T: Yes, it’s a witch. Do you see witches on Halloween?
Ss: Yes.
T: How about this one. Who’s this?
Ss: Santa Claus!
T: Yes, it’s Santa Claus. Do you see Santa Claus on Halloween?
Ss: No!
T: When do you see Santa Claus?
Ss: Christmas.
1） 絵本を読む前に、二人一組のペアをつくり、それぞれに紙と鉛筆（または色えんぴつ）を配る。
2） これからハロウィーンにちなんだ絵本を読むことを伝え、その前にどんなものが絵本に登場すると思うか二人で協力して考え、3分間で思いつくかぎり紙に描く。
※低学年は絵を、高学年は単語を書く。単語のつづりがわからなければ、”How do you spell ________?” と聞きながら書いてもよい。
T: Before reading this book, let’s play a game. With your partner, think about what kind of things you might see in this book and draw(write) them on this piece of paper. Draw (Write) as much as you can. You have three minutes. Ready, go!
3） それぞれどんなものを描いたか発表し、絵本を読んだあと、出てきたものを○で囲む。
T: What did you draw? How many things did you see in the book?
絵本に登場したものをいくつか言い、子どもに絵本の中から探してもらいましょう。
“Please find the ghost!”
“How many bats are there? Let’s count.”
