内容：まったくイヌらしく鳴かないジョージ。お母さんイヌは心配して、病院に連れて行きますが…？ 日本語ではワンワン、となるイヌの鳴き声は、英語ではどうなるでしょうか？ ユーモアたっぷりで読み聞かせにぴったりの１冊です。
対象：小学校中学年～高学年
動物の絵カードなど
※今回は『小学校英語活動おまかせパック』（アルク）の絵カードを使用。
獣医さんがジョージの口の中から動物を引っぱり出す場面では、どんな動物が出てくるか子どもたちに推測をさせながら読みましょう。
1） 表紙の絵を見せて質問をする。
T: What’s this?
Ss: A dog.
T: Yes, it’s a dog. His name is George. What do dogs say? Do they say, “Meow?”
Ss: No. ワンワン。
T: That’s right. In English, dogs say “Arf arf. (bow-wow / ruff ruff)”
2） どんな動物の鳴き声なのか、子どもたちに推測をさせながら読み進める。
T: George went: “Quack-quack.” Wait a minute. Do dogs say, “Quack-quack?”
Ss: No!
T: What kind of animal says, “Quack-quack?”
S1: カラス？
S2: A bird / duck?
3） 最後のページでジョージがなぜ “Hello.”と言ったのか、みんなで理由を考える。
T: What did George say at the end?
Ss: Hello.
T: Why did he say, “Hello?”
Ss: ……….
仲間をみつけよう！
1） 絵本に登場した動物や他の動物の名前と英語での鳴き声を、絵カードなどを使って紹介する。
（例）a dog ? arf arf / a cat ? meow meow / a cow ? moo moo / a duck ? quack quack / a horse ? neigh neigh / a pig ? oink oink/ a mouse ? squeak squeak
2） ミニ絵カードを2セット用意する。生徒を2つのチームに分けて、それぞれ教室のはじとはじに分かれて立つ。各チームに同じセットのミニ絵カードを1人1枚ずつ配る。
T: Please get into two groups and stand on each side of the classroom.
T: I’m going to give each of you a picture card of an animal.
3） 先生の合図で、全員同時に自分が持っている絵カードの動物の鳴き声を真似る。相手チームの中で自分と同じ鳴き声を真似ている人を見つけたペアの勝ち。
T: Your partner is in the other group. You must find your partner, but you must not speak English or Japanese. You can only speak animal language. When you find your partner, please sit down together.
T: When I say, “Ready, go!”, you turn into the animal on your picture card. Go find your partner. Did you understand?
Ss: Yes!
T: Ready, go!
Ss: Moo moo / Quack quack/Arf arf/ Meow meow…
1） 生徒を2つにチーム分けて、それぞれ教室のはじとはじに分かれて立つ。片方のチームにはミニ絵カード、もう片方のチームには動物の名前を書いた紙を1人1枚ずつ配る。
T: To group A, I’m going to give each of you a picture card of an animal. To group B, I’m going
to give you a different card. It has an animals’ name written on.
2） 先生の合図でチームAは全員同時に自分が持っている絵カードの動物の鳴き声を真似る。チームBは自分のカードに書かれている動物の鳴き声を真似ている人を探す。最初に相手を見つけたペアの勝ち。
T: Group A, when I say, “Ready, go!”, speak the animal language of the animal on your picture card. Group B, you must find out the person who has the animal on your card.
T: Ready, go!
Ss (Group A): Moo moo / Quack quack / Arf arf / Meow meow…
S2 (Group B): S1, do you have a dog?
S1: Yes, I do.
